On top of this, I'd end up crashing once the coffee wore off so I'd need to drink more, which isn't a great cycle to get into. I've tried going cold turkey before, but that doesn't really work great while cutting down still left me shattered. This is why I started looking into matcha green tea to see if a glass in the morning could substitute the majority of the coffee I would drink in a day. After finding Purechimp matcha - which a friend recommended - I gave up my payday bottle of gin (not a regular thing, but something I'd planned on buying this month) in order to buy a couple of jars.
As with most people who start work at 8am five days a week, I have become hugely dependant on coffee over the last few years. Considering I need to engage my brain most of the day in order to write, coffee is one of the main things that has allowed me to do this. However, several cups of coffee a day also means a fair bit of milk and a lot of spoons of sugar, which really isn't ideal.

Yesterday we went out for an early anniversary celebration (we're both working on our actual anniversary), which included the husband taking me out for lunch. When he asked me where I wanted to go, I think he was expecting me to opt for somewhere fairly pricey and with seats, but all I wanted was a bourek and some mint tea from Cafe Moor in Kirkgate Market.
Cafe Moor is one of my favourite places for street food in Leeds, especially as they have vegetarian and pescetarian options that are absolutely delicious. I've been meaning to take the husband for ages, but haven't got around to it so a Saturday off seemed like the perfect excuse to indulge. There are a number of places that I've come across throughout Leeds at random points and that I've intended to go back to at a later date. One of these that I haven't had a reason to go to but always really want to is Just Grand! vintage tea rooms in the Grand Arcade.
I found the tearoom a couple of years ago when getting my hair cut but just haven't got around to going in for a drink or food. Every time I've meant to go, something has come up and it hasn't happened, but last weekend (Saturday, September 9th), I arranged to meet some awesome fierce babes there for a catch up and I'm really glad I did. If there's one thing I love in life, it's a good cocktail. This is why I was super happy to get an invite to the opening of Epic Cocktail Club in Leeds, even more so because I was able to take the husband with me.
Cheap date night aside, my husband can be quite critical of cocktails - previously, he's only really liked those available from Be At One - so having him help me review a cocktail bar works in my favour. I'll start off by saying that we were both quite impressed with Epic, not least because we were handed a free drink the minute we'd walked through the door (even though there was some confusion as to which name my entrance was booked under). In fact, the husband is actually happy to go back again, which is a very good sign. I'm already missing the sunny south-west after a week back in Leeds and back at work. As well as family, friends and the sea, I'm definitely missing the food. There's nothing quite like Devonshire/Cornish ice cream, pasties and cream teas, especially if those cream teas are from Badgers Holt, Dartmoor.
After a morning at the Buckfast Butterfly and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, we headed out for a drive to explore more of beautiful Dartmoor. Despite my mum's car struggling to deal with the crazy hills and having to keep an eye out for wild ponies, we ended up at the wonderfully hidden but still incredibly popular Badgers Holt. |
