While I haven't written as many blogs as I would like to over the passed few weeks (I should really say I haven't published many as there are a fair few in my drafts folder just waiting for me to take photos), I've done plenty of other things that have made me happy. In a tradition that has been going on for quite a while now, here are ten things I've loved about the past month.
Considering the fact that January felt like it was about three years long, February has gone surprisingly quickly, but this doesn't mean it has been any less busy. I've managed to cram a fair bit into the last month and organise plenty for March, so the first quarter of this year looks set to be fairly exciting. Trying to find the perfect daytime facial moisturiser has become the biggest challenge of my skincare routine. I previously found one that I loved, but I just couldn't justify the £50 price tag, especially as I am always testing out new products. However, I really got on with Laidbare's Pack Your Bags Eye Cream previously so I started looking at what else the brand has on offer.
I ended up eyeing this moisturiser for a while but needed the one I was using to run out before I made purchase. Luckily, just before I got desperate for a day cream, what should happen to get delivered in my Love Lula beauty box? Sometimes I think they read my mind with the box's contents, so needless to say, I was a very happy camper; even more so because this moisturiser has not disappointed. Working 9 To 5 has now become my go to day cream and I will happily buy it again, especially as a 50ml tube is only £7.99, which is incredibly reasonable considering how amazing it feels on my skin. I don't know where this misconception came from that control underwear is the be all and end all when it comes to making you look svelte and amazing. No type of pant, slip or legging is going to actually perform magic on your body and transform it into something it isn't.
I'm a member a few different plus-sized fashion groups on Facebook and in all of them, almost on a daily basis, I see people asking advice about the best "magic knickers". Even worse, I see posts asking if an outfit looks okay with people commenting that "it will look great with some control pants". All of this annoys me as 1: you don't need to wear something that apparently sucks it all in to look great and 2: telling someone they'll "look great if they wear control underwear" is a basically a way of saying they look fat or that they don't look good enough. I'm not going to lie, I did believe the hype about control pants before now and wouldn't dream of wearing certain outfits without them. However, I now see just how terrible they are, not only as a concept but also to wear. Let's face it, even if a pair of pants really was magical enough to make you look like JLaw on the red carpet, there is no way in hell they are going to be anywhere near comfortable. Now, however, I am done with control underwear. I am embracing not only my curves but all of my lumps and bumps, which are plentiful due to loose skin caused by weight loss. I've taken to wearing dresses that show off visible stomach lines without the torture of control pants and I've been loving it. Granted, it has taken me a while to get to this point, but after wearing a form-fitting dress (yes, you can wear slinky dresses when you're fat) without anything to suck it all in, I realised the truth: that control underwear is a lie. Here's exactly why you should sack of those uncomfortable contraptions and embrace every single inch of your body as it, not to mention show it all of: |
