Unfortunately, the husband was working, but this meant I could arrange a babe date with a couple of my friends and a pup. This was a good idea as it was a long drive - the longest I'd done at the time - so doing it on my own was not going to be an option. It also meant I had someone else in the car to Google car parks as it seemed that most of Yorkshire had the same idea as me and descended on Scarborough on the same day.
While I do love Leeds, the fact that I can't just pop down the road to the beach on a hot day is still a big negative for me. As the weather has gotten better, all I've wanted to do is go for a swim in the sea, which inspired my first day trip since getting a car. Knowing that the weather on the last Bank Holiday weekend was going to be really nice, I thought that a trip to Scarborough was in order.

A few weeks ago, I went to one of the makeup masterclasses hosted by NYX Cosmetics in Boots in Trinity Leeds. I love NYX products and have used them since before they were available in the UK, which wasn't easy to do as the US version of the brand didn't post to Britain. The colours are bright and bold while they offer great dupes for expensive brands as more affordable prices. Many of my go-to products are from NYX so I was looking forward to getting some great makeup tips.
The guys at NYX Leeds do regular masterclasses with a different theme for each one, so you'll always learn something a bit different and get to test a range of fantastic products. This time around, the focus was on new products and dots, which isn't something I've experimented much with. It was run by the lovely Jess, who is a makeup artist working for NYX in Leeds Trinity and who is always crazy helpful and awesome every time I see her. This month has been a bit of a mixed bag, but luckily most parts of it have been positive. While the husband really hurt himself and we have had a visit to the hospital and numerous other appointments to deal with - not to mention me having to carry him around a lot - he's getting better and other happenings have managed to keep both of us happy. In fact, I think all the good things that have happened this month made all of that a lot more bearable.
As I think is usual, this month has been incredibly busy, but with social events as well as work and making plans. I've realised this year just how important it is to make time for doing things with people so have been making more of an effort to meet up with friends and give myself a break. This, on top of a few other great things, have ensured that I'm feeling really positive about May and am looking forward to June - not least because it's my birthday month. So, without further ado, here are ten things that are making me smile in particular, although there are more than a few others that are doing a good job too: Last month, my sister came to Leeds for her annual visit, which meant exploring a few new places. When looking for places I knew we'd both be interested in, I was recommended a visit to Bronte Country. I had been tempted to go before, as it looks really beautiful and the museum seemed like it would be fairly interesting. However, my husband has no interest in the Brontes so it never happened.
Luckily, my sister is a Bronte fan so I knew she'd be a much more willing participant in the day out, which definitely proved to be the case. Unfortunately, I didn't have my trusty pink car at the time, which meant dealing with the joy of public transport to get there, although this worked out the best in the end as navigating some of the windy streets looked liked it'd be an absolute nightmare. Plus, I obviously needed a cider in the afternoon. Earlier this month, my sister came to visit. We had a few days of exploring different places but she also helped us move so I figured she deserved a treat. She's just as big a fan of Japanese food as I am so it seemed I had the perfect excuse to finally pay a visit to SushiWaka.
A couple of my friends go to SushiWaka quite a bit and have said to me numerous times that I need to try it, but I've always ended up going somewhere else instead. I gave my sister a choice between Mexican, Japanese and Thai food, so when she picked the one I was sure she would I knew I didn't have an excuse to put off my visit any longer. You'll find SushiWaka just down the road from The Grand Theatre, so it's nice and central and easy to get to. It is definitely one of those places that you don't judge from the outside, as the building seems quite plain and nowhere near as fancy as some of the restaurants in the area. However, inside is clean, there's great little details on the table, you can see into the kitchen and - most importantly - the food is amazing. |
