The guys at NYX Leeds do regular masterclasses with a different theme for each one, so you'll always learn something a bit different and get to test a range of fantastic products. This time around, the focus was on new products and dots, which isn't something I've experimented much with. It was run by the lovely Jess, who is a makeup artist working for NYX in Leeds Trinity and who is always crazy helpful and awesome every time I see her.
Once everyone was seated, Jess talked us through what look she was going to do, which would be fairly extreme and suitable for festivals or parties. She had a volunteer to create the look on and all the products at the ready, including the new Lip of the Day Liquid Lip Liners.
Every step of the way, Jess told us all exactly what she was doing, why she was doing it and what products she was using. At each stage people were invited to ask any questions we had and she gave out some great tips, as well as gave insight into what she uses and how she does her makeup on a daily basis. Once Jess had used a product, it got passed around so everyone could give them a try, which basically confirmed with me why these cosmetics are so great.
Every technique the group shown could be easily replicated - although I'm still yet to try dots in my makeup looks - which makes a change from some previous makeup classes I've attended that haven't been for those who need to do their makeup quickly at 5:30am. Jess also gave some great advice on how to get the most out of NYX products, including using several of them in different ways and for different things, such as the liquid lip liners as eyeliner.
Once she'd completed the makeup look - which took an hour with all the questions and demonstrations - I got to get a closer look at the result, which was incredible, if not something I could wear to the office. I also got a chance to ask more specific questions, check out all the makeup and get advice on what I should try.
I'm already looking forward to the next one, although I'll probably need to give myself a budget as this one left me wanting to buy all the makeup.
