This month has genuinely been awesome and it isn't even over yet. I've been super busy and have seen a lot of people, but have still made time for myself. I think it's fair to say that I this February is completely different to last year, which is when my mental health really took a turn for the worst. I feel like I've come a long way and I really have started this year as I mean to go. This is why I am making sure I continue with my 10 things posts, so here is this month's:
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already noticed that I am spending a fair bit of time in sportswear and at the gym. No, this isn't part of a New Year's resolution, but the next step of my weight loss plan. I've been building up the amount of exercise I do every day since my operation to help support my weight loss and increse my endurance.
After getting in over 10,000 steps a day for the past few months by walking too and from work, I wanted to start doing more exercise and targeting certain areas to tone up - such as my arms and stomach. While I have been doing some video fitness routines, as well as squats and sit-ups at home, I knew that once I hit the six stone-loss mark, it was time to get more serious and join a gym.
I had actually wanted to join one before now, but I was advised not to after injuring my foot (which turned out to be hurt worse than I was originally told so I shouldn't have been walking six miles a day on it - oops). However, this actually gave me a chance to look at a few different gyms in the area rather than just signing up to the cheapest. It also meant I got to check out what the swimming options were.
Even if you're not into the sappy romance stuff and like to spout the line 'you should show your partner how much you love them every day' - which is totally true - you can't deny that a day dedicated to love is a pretty nice thing.
Yes, it may be heavily commercialised - what isn't nowadays? - and the suggested gifts may be utterly ridiculous, but if you have an excuse to spoil the one you love, what's so wrong about that? Especially if this means getting tasty food, which is what I'm getting treated to later tonight.
With that in mind, I hope all you couples out there have a good day together and I hope any singletons use the day as an excuse to spoil themselves - because today is a good reason for that too. Happy Valentine's Day.
Happy Galentine's Day! I love that February 13th has, for many, become about celebrating friendship and just generally lovely "ladies". I'm looking forward to spending this evening with some lovely people eating waffles and watching movies in honour of the day, which is a pretty awesome way to start the week.
In fact, most evenings this week are taken up, which is all part of my bid to be more social and do more things during the week - not counting the gym or writing blogs. Tomorrow it's dinner out with the husband (for the first Valentine's Day ever, as I usually cook), Wednesday is another opera and then Friday is another meal out. I get a feeling this week is going to be pretty good.
To get you in the mood to celebrate Galentine's Day, even if it means just calling someone out of the blue or dropping them a message, and to get you ready for the week ahead, here's a slightly different Motivational Monday for you:
After December's amazing beauty box from Love Lula, I have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed when I opened January's offering. December's included a great mix of products, including tea and perfume, but this box went back to being mostly skincare.
It didn't take long for me to get over this disappointment, though, as some of the products I was sent are absolutely brilliant and have genuinely saved my skin this winter. I don't know why I doubted the contents really, as Love Lula has never really let me down and there always seems to be some amazing products included in their monthly selection, even if they don't look great to start with.
I've now given everything a try for a few weeks and I have to say, there are two products I will be buying again.
