If you're also struggling this morning, here's some motivation for you:
I haven't posted a Motivational Monday blog since before going on holiday as being in both Cornwall and Devon with family and friends was enough to motivate me. However, today I am going back to work and real life so I need all the help I can get. I may wish that I was still relaxing on a beach, but I guess I'll have to make do with sorting through my mountain of emails instead - at least until October.

The summer months always make me happy, especially as they mean heading down to the south-west for a few weeks. This August is no different and I have already spent most of it grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Here's a few things that are helping to lighten my mood and that I am really loving this month:
By now, it's no secret that I've had a gastric band fitted - you can read all about it here - and that it has already led to me losing a substantial amount of weight - at the time of writing this, my weight loss is totalling 52 lbs. I keep getting asked what my target is in terms of weight loss or the size dress I can fit into, but I honestly don't have one, I just want to be happy and healthy.
I seem to be going in the right direction then, as I'm already feeling so much better within myself after losing what I have. Although I was getting to a good place in which I was accepting my body for what it was and learning to love it, I wasn't truly happy. My shrinking frame, the fact that I have more energy and not being in pain all the time with my back and knees has left me with almost a permanent smile. This is why I decided to buy a few things that I had wanted to wear for ages but hadn't felt brave enough to. After all, you can't really make the most of the summer weather without showing a bit of skin. Previously living in Cornwall meant that I was really close to a huge number of locations, one of my favourites being the Eden Project. If you've never heard of Eden, it is a stunning site that features huge and iconic biomes that house tropical plants - there is a rainforest biome and a Mediterranean one. It also features art, temporary exhibitions, activities and great restaurants.
I first went to the Eden Project with my family when it was reasonably newly opened and it hadn't grown quite as much as it has now. My husband and I both bought season tickets to Eden several years ago and so spent many days exploring and seeing what was new. The last time we went was for the anniversary of our first date - we weren't married at this point - which was before we moved to Leeds. Every time I've gone to the Eden Project, something is new and everything is always interesting, so I really wanted to go back when we were in Cornwall last week. The fact that it is just down the road from my mother-in-law's house made it even better as we didn't need to rely on two trains and a bus to get there. For a number of years, I called Falmouth home. I went to university there, I spent all my free time in the town and worked there. In fact, I chose to go to Falmouth University after visiting the town and falling head over heels in love with the area. It won't surprise you to find out that when I found out the Red Arrows were going to be doing an air display in Falmouth, I jumped at the chance to go back.
I haven't been to Falmouth for ages and luckily, it didn't take much convincing to get the husband to agree to go. I basically just had to say the words 'the Red Arrows' and he was all over it. We were both really happy when his family also wanted to go and a couple of our friends, especially as one friend had driven down from up country to see us and hadn't ever been to Falmouth. |
