We were given notice at the start of last month, completely out of the blue and it really threw us through a loop. While we had planned on looking for a new, bigger place this year, we were aiming on saving cash and moving when it best suited us - and definitely with a lot more notice!
Despite having two to three months to move, we decided that doing so sooner rather than later was the best option and took away some of the uncertainty that we faced. This meant engaging - as my husband calls it - superwoman mode to find a house that we could stay in for the long-term, that ticked all of our boxes, that allowed cats and that didn't cost an arm and a leg. In the end, we applied for the third house I went to see and moved in a couple of weeks later, less than four weeks after getting our notice.
Luckily, we have some an amazing friends and I have a brilliant sister, who rallied around and did a lot of heavy lifting, driving and moaning at the husband to get a move on. We honestly could not have done it without them, especially as so much needed doing in the house before we even started carrying in boxes.
On April 1st, we moved everything into our new home on the other side of Leeds. The next day we cleaned our old house from top to bottom, said goodbye and handed back our keys. If I wasn't so tired and sore after moving the day before, I think I would have allowed myself to be a bit more emotional than I was at this. While we had definitely outgrown our old house, it was the first home we made together without living with anyone else. It was the house I proposed to the Mr in, where we planned our wedding and where we came home to after our honeymoon. A lot happened in that house in just four years.
However, I am loving our new house - especially now the letting agent has got most of the issues with it sorted out. We have a lot more space, a spare room ready for the future, another games room, a library, two gardens and a surrounding area that is full of green.
We may not have been planning to move so quickly but it definitely seems as though it was the right time for us, especially as the house isn't far from the hospital where we'll be going for our fertility treatment in just a few months. I'm looking forward to making this place feeling more like home and on catching up on some more blogs as soon as possible.
